DNA evidence leads to an indictment in two Algiers rape investigations.

Today, District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro announced a grand jury indicted Navarri Henderson, 22, in connection to two separate sexual assaults. The D.A. says Henderson raped a woman jogging on the Algiers Point levee back in December 2016 and allegedly raped another woman who was six-months pregnant, in August 2018.

Last October, he was arrested on an unrelated domestic violence charge in which he allegedly beat his pregnant girlfriend. He posted a $5,000 bond in that case but later failed to appear for his Dec. 9 arraignment. He instead fled to his sister’s house in Mississippi. The D.A says the DNA sample taken at the time of his arrest, later linked him to both rapes in Algiers.

U.S. Marshals arrested Henderson in Mississippi on Jan. 8 and he was extradited to New Orleans. If convicted, Henderson could face a mandatory life in prison for any of the rape or kidnapping counts against him.
