The Mississippi River has been about a foot below flood stage for days after a record amount of time this year, including an unprecedented second opening of the Bonnet Carre spillway in the same year. But the effects of Invest 92 are expected to change that, the National Weather Service predicts:

The city is protected to a project height of 20 feet. There is still a great deal of uncertainty regarding potential impacts, so please continue to monitor the forecast over the next several days for the latest information. #lawx #Tropics  2/2 pic.twitter.com/fHlvEbDFKm

After consultation with the National Hurricane Center's Storm Surge Unit and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the National Weather Service forecast a crest of 19 feet by Friday afternoon at the Carrollton gauge, followed by a quick fall. That's about three feet above the current river level.

Mississippi River levees offer a minimum of protection to 20 feet in some areas. The weather service advises interests on the river to keep a close watch on the forecast for the next few days.
