New Orleans Saints' quarterback Drew Brees and his wife, Brittany, are embroiled in a court battle with a California jeweler.

At issue is the value of diamonds they say were purchased, as an investment, for over $15 million.

According to The San Diego Union-Tribune, the diamonds were displayed Thursday when trial of the couple's lawsuit against Vihad Moradi and CJ Charles jewelers began.

Rebecca Riley, the Brees' attorney, claimed in her opening statement that Moradi agreed to obtain the diamonds, then sell them to the couple at wholesale prices and be compensated by the original seller.

The diamonds, she said, were placed in painted settings to deepen their color.

Drew and Brittany claim they were defrauded of more than $6 million, paying far more than wholesale and costs.

The jewelers' defense denied any wholesale agreement and called the settings common.
