Jefferson Parish voters gave their approval to a proposal to sell East Jefferson General Hospital to LCMC Health, WWL-TV projects.

With 153 of 171 precincts reporting, the sale has 95 percent approval.

EJGH was on shaky financial ground, and parish leaders urged approval of the sale. LCMC's offer of $90 million will pay the hospital's existing debt and fully fund its pension program. LCMC has also pledged to make $100 million in improvements over the next five years, the TV station reports.

The non-profit LCMC owns or operates West Jefferson Medical Center, Children's Hospital, Touro Infirmary, University Medical Center, and New Orleans East Hospital.
