University of New Orleans economist Walter "Dub" Lane says it was a noble idea, but they are going about the wrong way.
''It really has no bearing on the actual prices, so if you look at what's posted out there it can be very misleading," said Lane.
Lane says the prices can be old, or they have changed, and he advises going through an insurer.
''If you have insurance if you really wanted to know, then you would have to get the information from your insurance company and that's the other thing that is really bad about this,'' Lane said.
Lane believes it appears revisions to this requirement are likely to come in the new year.
