Officials say sprinklers at Armstrong International Airport extinguished a fire in an electrical room Wednesday night.
A spokeswoman says the fire suppression system worked properly and triggered sprinklers when the fire broke out on the third floor of the new terminal.
New Orleans Aviation Board Director of Communications Erin Burns said no one was injured.
Water was reported pouring into parts of the building.
The fire department is investigating the cause of the fire.
The airport has been largely empty with coronavirus drastically reducing flights and numbers of passengers.
