4th of July Public Fireworks Displays:

  • St. Bernard Parish (Chalmette)
  • City of Mandeville

It’s definitely going to be a different Fourth of July across the region.

The spectre of COVID-19 has cancelled festivals and concerts and fireworks shows all over.

But a few communities are still putting on the show.

Covington, Mandeville, St. Bernard and St. Charles are putting on what will be the biggest fireworks displays still scheduled to take place.

St. Charles Parish’s Samantha DeCastro talks about the event which takes place tonight.

“We’ll be hosting our 30th Annual July 3rd Independence Day celebration with fireworks,” DeCastro says.  “This is an event we know many of our community look forward to every year.”

The event, at the Westbank Bridge Park, features over 20-acres of space for participants to spread out and still practice social distancing.

St. Charles Parish does recommend a facemask or face covering.

Gates open at 6, fireworks kick off at 9pm.

Covington tonight is hosting Sparks from the Park with fireworks flying over Bogue Falaya Park at 9:00pm.

"The pyrotechnics will be fired from nearer the front of the park so the community will be able to see them from various places around downtown," according to a news release.

Go 4th on the River in New Orleans is off, but “St. Bernard Salutes America” is on!  Donald Bourgeois with St. Bernard Parish is excited.

“Families and people come together, sitting on the back of the tailgate, watchin’ the show, get out the lawn chairs.  We predict a fabulous fireworks show, it’s going to be 12-minutes and then we’ll conclude with a grand finale that is going to knock your socks off!” The skyrockets take flight at 9pm.  The event is from 5:00-9:30 p.m. on the Frederick J. Sigur Civic Center Grounds located at 8245 W. Judge Perez Drive, Chalmette.  Admission is free.

Though COVID has put the Ky-bosh on all kinds of concerts and fireworks displays, the Northshore will be keeping with tradition.

On the Fourth, the Lakehouse is having a concert featuring Rockin’ Dopsie.  The event opens at 3:30, there’s a 5:30 meet and greet with Dopsie.  The concert kicks off at 6:30.

Mandeville’s presents their “Light up the Lake” celebration Saturday night can be viewed from most of the Northshore.  Alia Casborné with the City of Mandeville fills us in, “This year, we’re just going to do the fireworks over the lake and we’re going to do it at 8:45!”

Casborné says the entire lakefront is open for viewing with plenty of social distancing opportunities.

“Lakeshore Drive is 1.6 miles, not including Sunset Point, so some people will be viewing from their vehicles, some will be social distancing out by the seawall, so there’s so many different ways to see it, the way barge is positioned on the lakefront you can see it through out all Mandeville.”
