Should you need to be tested for coronavirus, an Ochsner medical doctor wants you to know it's going to be a little different.
Infectous Disease Specialist, Dr. Brobson Lutz says make sure the person administering the test is using the correct swab.
"The procedure of choice for testing someone for coronavirus is not a throat swab, is not a nasal swab, it's what is called a Nasopharyngeal swab," Dr. Lutz says.
"And that means a swab goes through your nose to tickle the back of your throat. It's a different kind of culture [collection] than people are used to.
Dr. Lutz tells WWL-TV using the wrong swab, like the more traditional wooden one, could return a false negative.
