Gov. John Bel Edwards speculates on "new normal" when restrictions ease

Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards today said they are already thinking about how to "reopen" Louisiana, even though the date when that might happen is still an unknown.

One sector the governor said would come back before others is non-critical medical procedures. All elective procedures have been put on hold, from diagnostic procedures like colonoscopies to arthroscopic surgery.

"You can only put those things off for so long," said Edwards. "That is a sector of the economy, if you will, or at least, directly related to healthcare, that we're looking to see if we can open that up sooner, rather than later."

The governor said even as other aspects of life start to come back, some of the things we've been living with may continue, like wearing masks and maintaining social distance.
