Governor’s Coronavirus task force meets today

Coronavirus

Will Louisiana enact any restrictions now that there's a coronavirus patient at the VA medical center in New Orleans? A meeting of state officials today will bring that up.

Could travel restrictions or event cancellations be in the offing? Both Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards and New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell have said they have no intention of setting up travel restrictions or calling off public events, like this weekend's slate of St Patrick's parades. But the governor also said it’s something that may be required if conditions warrant it, so it will be discussed at today’s task force meeting.

"It is something that the task force is evaluating,” said Edwards. "They will be looking at things like travel, for example, by state employees. They're going to be looking at things like events and so forth."

Edwards says at this time, there's no reason to, say, tell state officials not to travel, or to consider any broad cancellations. But one of the things that will be discussed at today's meeting of his coronavirus task force is what would be the threshold for taking more drastic action.
