Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards today announced a $24 million program to offer emergency assistance to renters at risk of eviction.
"Eligible renters will have payments made on their behalf to their landlords," the governor said. "The payment amount depends on income, household size, and fair-market rent prices."
Keith Cunningham with the Louisiana Housing Corporation says it's as easy a phone call.
The program will be accessed through a 211 service," said Cunningham. "That 211 service that is currently in use to provide information can be used to access information regarding this program."
There's also a web site where people can apply, and help renters can also get information on the program by texting "LARentHelp" to 898-211.
There are income limits: annual income of $13,500 to $25,450, depending on household size.
