Grand Isle Mayor David Camardelle has ordered a mandatory evacuation beginning at 6:00 a.m. Saturday, in anticipation of Tropical Storm Cristobal.
Boats and campers were ordered to seek shelter away from the island starting noon today, and a voluntary evacuation started as well.
The center of Cristobal is expected to be over the southern Gulf of Mexico by this evening, and continue moving north toward the Louisiana coast.
