
An armed 66-year-old woman who walked into Ochsner Old Jefferson Medical Center and demanded the release of her juvenile granddaughter Friday evening.
The woman is identified as Evelyn Miller.
She reportedly pointed gun at a security guard and other staffers at the hospital and demanded the child.
No shots were fired and no one was injured according to Captain Jason Rivarde with Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Department.
The woman was allowed to leave the hospital with her granddaughter, Adreanna Miller, without incident.
Evelyn Miller was last seen wearing a purple shirt and black pants. Adreanna Miller was wearing an Ochsner hospital gown.
According to the Times-Picayune/New Orleans Advocate, Ochsner released the following statement:
"Ochsner would like to re-assure all employees, patients and visitors of their safety while at any of our facilities. We take security very seriously and are vigilant about keeping our campus, employees, patients and visitors safe at all times. We are unable to comment further as we are working with the proper authorities during this investigation and giving them our complete cooperation."
