UPDATE: 12:55pm Cop on leave without pay pending probe

Gretna police have sent an officer home without pay until investigators complete a probe of his behavior.

"Gretna Police Officer Charles Rispoli... is on Administrative Leave without pay pending an investigation."

He allegedly posted a politically charged Facebook post that suggests violence against a congresswoman.

The case that grew out of a war of words between President Trump and Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.  She is one of the four congresswomen known as "The Squad."

Officer Charlie Rispoli said, "This vile idiot needs a round.......and I don't mean the kind she used to serve."

The comment came with a link to the website tatersgonnatate.com; which describes itself as "parody, satire, and tomfoolery."  Rispoli shared an article on the self proclaimed "junk news" site that made up a quote from Ocasio-Cortez saying US soldiers are paid too much.

Gretna Police Chief Arthur Lawson told The Times-Picayune The New Orleans Advocate that he would take action against Officer Rispoli.

“I will tell you this: This will not go unchecked," Lawson said. "I’m not going to take this lightly and this will be dealt with on our end. It’s not something we want someone that’s affiliated with our department to make these types of statements. That’s not going to happen."

Rispoli's Facebook account has been removed after word spread of his posting which suggested shooting Ocasio-Cortez.
