Grand Isle Police have identified the 17-year-old who drowned over the Memorial Day weekend as Oscar Gustavo Rivera from Hammond Louisiana.
The Times-Picayune | The New Orleans Advocate reports, the Grand Isle Police Chief Laine Landry said two of the teen’s relatives, a 15-year-old boy, and a 47-year old woman were also rescued from the waters. The other teen was airlifted to University Medical Center in New Orleans. The second woman found was taken to a local area hospital.
This all happened Sunday evening on a beach-area near Andy P. Valence Memorial Bridge which connects Grand Isle to Highway 1.
Landry said the drowned teen, and the two rescued, were part of a family party who traveled to the beach for swimming and fishing over the Memorial Day weekend. Authorities suspect the three family members were caught in an undertow.
