Cristobal may be gone but a line of severe weather moves in bringing heavy rain and street flooding to downtown New Orleans. New Orleans Councilman Joe Giarrusso says this is to be expected after a tropical storm passes through.
“So this is just one of those rain events we talked about during a tropical storm that is unexpected but is dumping an unprecedented amount of rain in a very short period of time.”
The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for much of the New Orleans metro area. Some parts of the city saw 3-5 inches of rain in just one hour.
“The pumps are all apparently working. The power is above the 53 mega-watt basis that it needs to be, there are about 60 so there is more than enough power, but I think they turned on turbine one this morning to deal with most of this and turbine four as backup, so that is going as it should.”
