Christmas travel is up this year -- setting a record, according to AAA. That's in spite of gas prices being higher than last year.

According to AAA, 115.6 million people will be taking a holiday trip. AAA spokesman Don Redman says the people who are flying will be headed to the airport this weekend.

"That's going to be really busy the 21st through the 23rd," Redman said. The 23rd is also when AAA expects most of the holiday travel road trip activity to begin.happen.

"Returning, we're talking about a couple of days past Christmas," said Redman.

The record travel comes even though gasoline prices nationwide are a bit more expensive than they were a year ago.

"We're looking at prices about 18 cents higher than they were last year," said Redman.

Redman said gas prices have held steady the past few weeks, and will probably start to come down after the first of the new year.
