Firefighters brought a blaze at Chalmette Refining under control after an explosion and fire was reported this afternoon.
There are no reported injuries.
The sheriff's office had to shut down part of W. St. Bernard highway in the area, but reopened it shortly after 1:30 p.m.
Thick black smoke could be seen coming from the refinery.
