Hot and dry for Friday but a slight chance of spotty showers over the weekend.
WWL-TV’s Meteorologist Dave Nussbaum says, “After having the wettest July on record at MSY, we needed a day to dry out! And we'll get another tomorrow. In fact, even as rain chances return this weekend and continue next week, there does not appear to really be a focus to increase rain coverage much above 30%. The ridge of high pressure that extends from the western US, across the Gulf, and into the central Atlantic is keeping us relatively dry. We did a few showers today, but coverage was less than 10%. Expect a dry day Friday before a rather strong midsummer trough digs south and pushes a weak front into the area this weekend. 30-40% rain chances this weekend. The trough looks to remain anchored in the southern US continuing into next week, keeping about a 30% chance for showers beyond the weekend. IF you are not under the rain, you are in the low to possibly mid-90s. No extreme heat, however, is on the horizon.”
Nussbaum says Hurricane Isaias continues to organize with winds 80 to 100 mph. It is expected to cross the Bahamas and impact the east coast of Florida over the weekend.
