Demostrators gathered by the hundreds Thursday at the Louisiana State Capitol a day after lawmakers passed a strict new abortion ban

Many of the protestors wore bright pink T-shirts reading "We Stand With Planned Parenthood" on the front and "We Won't Back Down" on the back.

Louisiana's so-called heartbeat bill bans abortions once a fetal heartbeat has been detected. That can occur as early as the sixth week of pregnancy.

Some of the demonstrators had babies with them as they filled the Capitol's lobby. Many said abortions will continue in Louisiana despite the ban, but will no longer be safe.

The protestors said lawmakers have proven that they're against women and women's health.

Later Thursday, Governor John Bel Edwards announced he had signed the measure into law.
