
According to Irish Channel residents, coyotes living around Washington Avenue have attacked area dogs and cats.
People who live in the area say they started seeing multiple coyotes roaming the streets about a month ago.
Last week, one woman said she ran inside her home before a coyote attacked a cat in her backyard.
She also said the animals had torn up her outdoor furniture.
Neighbors believe a pair of coyotes and an estimated six coyote puppies are living in an empty lot on Washington Ave.
A coyote was also caught on video picking up someone's dog in it's mouth. Once the owner came outside, it let the dog go. The dog was not harmed.
Neighbors have called New Orleans City Hall for assistance, but to no avail.
A nuisance animal control operator says private dollars would have to be paid to get rid of the animals at a cost of $500 per coyote.
Terry Friedman also claims he'd be required to euthanize them if employed to catch them.
