Jefferson Parish's oldest established krewe, the all female Krewe of Isis takes to the streets of Kenner for the first time in a long time when they roll tonight from Esplanade Mall at 6pm.

Kenner Mayor Ben Zahn heaped praise on Isis' Captain:

"Cheryl Goldman has done a fantastic job, we've been at least four morning programs these last few weeks.   And she's been there, promoting her parade and I do think we'll have a pretty good crowd."

In 1973 this all-female organization was charted in the city of Kenner, and the women held their first 7 processions there before moving to Veterans Boulevard.

After the collapse of the Krewe of Caesar, Isis took the opportunity to return to its roots in Kenner.

Isis was the mother of Horus and the sister and wife of Osiris in the mythology of ancient Egypt.

She was honored as the goddess of the earth and the moon, a symbol of motherhood and fertility.

Isis was also worshiped in the Greek and Roman empires.

She was traditionally represented as a woman wearing a cow's horns with a solar disk between them.

Isis is known for throwing lots of beads, along with very coveted decorated pairs of flip-flops.
