As the rest of America winds down from the parties, overeating and merriment of Christmas and New Year's, New Orleans keeps the party going.

In fact, the countdown to the city's biggest bash of the year begins Sunday night.

"It's 12th Night, it's January 6th, and the Phunny Phorty Phellows will ride the rails of the historic St. Charles Avenue Streetcar," says Phellows Captain, Peggy Scott Laborde.

The Heralds of Carnival will take to the streetcar line at 7pm from South Carrollton and go the entire route down St. Charles to Canal and back to the Willow Street barn, marking the official start of Carnival 2019.

Krewe members will be costumed, satirically reflecting the topics of the day.

Their motto is: "A little nonsense now and then is cherished by the best of men."

Other getting an early start today include the “Mande Milkshakers,” a North Shore female marching group who'll take to the Mandeville Lakefront this afternoon at 1 o'clock.
