Jazz Fest "Brass Passes" sold out, though not valid for Stones' show

The Jazz Fest "Brass Pass" offered by WWOZ Radio has sold out, a day before general public tickets go on sale, The New Orleans Advocate reports. The Advocate's Keith Spera writes it's the first mid-January sellout for the seven days of access.

Note that it's seven days, even though this year's festival is eight days. That's because Thursday, May 2, the day The Rolling Stones perform, isn't included.

So what caused the rush on Brass Passes? The chance to buy, at the $185 face value, a ticket for May 2, a day that also features Tom Jones, Mavis Staples, and Ziggy Marley.

The $675 Brass Passes are a major fund raiser for the community radio station. 

If you miss out on May 2 tickets when they go on sale Friday, and you really want to see the Stones, there are a few more options, but most of these options will cost significantly more. Those are the three VIP packages that Jazz Fast offers, and for The Rolling Stones weekend, they start at $1,100. for a Krewe of Jazz Fest VIP pass, up to $2,000 for Grand Marshal and Big Chief VIP tickets.

There are also volunteer opportunities via the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation, but that probably doesn't guarantee any patches of grass on the day the Stones perform.
