Emergency managers in Jefferson Parish anticipate minimal storm damage when hurricane Laura is expected to make landfall on southeast Louisiana’s coast.

Director of Emergency Management for Jefferson Parish, Joe Valiente credits the parish’s early planning and emergency preparations for the anticipated deceased risk.

“I think the take-away here, for us, is that we started some very aggressive preparation, very early for Grand Isle and Laffite,” said Valiente.

He says is not worried about Laura causing devastating damage to the coastal parts of the parish.

“I think for this storm, the impact is going to be minimal,” Valiente said. “Thank God that the storm chose a different path and I was amazed at the level of cooperation between Jefferson Parish leadership and local governments.”

Laura is forecast to be at least a category 2 hurricane when it makes landfall late Tuesday through Thursday.
