An NOPD officer is facing criminal gun charges on the Northshore.
"A patrol officer with the New Orleans Police Department has been arrested by the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office," Lieutenant Suzanne Carboni said in a news release. "Derrick Burmaster, 47, of Slidell, brandished his NOPD-issued firearm during an argument with his roommate."
Burmaster allegedly threatened, but did not shoot his roommate.
"Following an investigation by the STPSO Persons Crimes Unit, a warrant was obtained Friday (October 16) for his arrest."
Carboni says the charge is aggravated assault with a firearm.
"Burmaster turned himself in at the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center Saturday."
