The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office fired a patrol deputy, and arrested him for theft, according to the Times-Picayune | New Orleans Advocate.
The sheriff's office says Justin Vappie, who had been with the department since April 2019, took the money from a wallet that a citizen had reported lost.
The sheriff's office said the wallet contained a "known amount" of money, and it came up short when Vappie checked the wallet in to the department's property office.
