LA Republicans react to SCOTUS abortion law strike-down

Louisiana Republicans react to the U.S. Supreme Court striking down a Louisiana abortion law.

The 2014 law would in part, require abortion clinic doctors to have patient admitting privileges at hospitals near their clinic.

Supporters of Unsafe Abortion Protection Act argue the state law, which passed Louisiana House and Senate, improves the standard of care for woman at abortion clinics.

However, Pro-Choice supporters say it puts an unfair burden on local hospitals.

"We can't deny our duty to protect all lives, no matter how loudly the abortion industry insists that baseline standards of medical care do not apply to them," Republican Senator John Kennedy said in a video posted on social media.

Extremely troubling that #SCOTUS strikes down a Louisiana law that fundamentally protects women. The abortion industry insists that baseline standards of medical care don’t apply to them. They're wrong. #ProLife pic.twitter.com/b1tKUARTHn

Kennedy added, “And I'll keep fighting for the life and health of every single person, including and especially vulnerable women and children.”

"Women and babies deserve emergency care - no matter the situation or what abortionists think," House Minority Whip Steve Scalise said in a tweet following the decision. "We won't quit fighting."

-- Horrible SCOTUS decision → The Supreme Court just ruled that states can't even hold abortion clinics to similar health standards as other medical centers.Women and babies deserve emergency care—no matter the situation or what abortionists think. We won’t quit fighting.

A nearly identical bill in Texas was struck down in 2016.
