NOPD is asking for help tracking down a man suspected of bilking an elderly victim after claiming to be a contractor.
"New Orleans Police are asking the public's assistance with locating a suspect wanted for theft by fraud." according to a news release. "Wanted is Raychel Jefferson (pictured), Black male, height 5' 9", and weight 155 pounds."
Cops say he lied to a Westbank resident about providing repairs at a home in Algiers.
"According to investigators, on June 3, 2026 in the 1000 block of Horace Street Raychel Jefferson defrauded the elderly victim by impersonating a contractor, receiving payment, and then not performing the paid-for work."
Authorities have issued a warrant for his arrest.
"Anyone with additional information that can assist in this investigation is urged to contact NOPD Fourth District detectives at 504-658-6040."
