The federal money to help small businesses impacted by the coronavirus crisis is now gone. Congressional leaders are working to pass another bill to replenish the SBA loans and Payroll Protection Program.
Director of the Louisiana chapter of the National Federation of Independent Businesses, Dawn Starns, says about 25-thousand small business owners in Louisiana have been helped by the government money but says it is not enough.
“The reality of it is in 2019 we had 430,000 small business owners in the state of Louisiana so that by comparison tells you we are not doing all that we need to do.”
However, Starns says if you are a small business and had got your application in early you will get your money, “There are several loans that are in the cue that is waiting for approval or just weren’t processed at all.”
She says now that the COVID-19 measures are beginning to work reopening the economy has to be done in a reasonable way. “At the end of the day you are going to have to look at the balance of public health versus the economy coming back,” said Starns.
