Hurricane Laura's devastation is expected to make it second only the Hurricane Katrina in terms of the insured losses from the storm.
Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon says Katrina is by far number one.
Early estimates are that insured losses alone will be between $9 billion and $10 billion.
"That would make Laura the second worst hurricane in the history of the state," Donelon noted.
He says it surpasses Rita for the number two spot.
"Second for us has been Rita at $3.3 billion."
Donelon says that Laura's estimated insured losses will not threaten Katrina's record.
"Katrina, even in those 2005 numbers of $25.3 billion in paid insured losses - not counting flood (claims) - is still the world record insured loss event in the history of insurance anywhere in the world."
