A Belle Rose man is in jail after authorities say he went to a grocery store, filmed himself opening a Blue Bell ice cream container, licking the contents, sticking his fingers in the container, and then returning it to the store freezer.
Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office Commander Lonny Cavalier says they don't take 36-year-old Lenise Lloyd Martin III’s prank lightly.
“It does create a health hazard and it does alarm the public and we intend to vigorously pursue anyone who does that,” said Cavalier.
The stunt is similar to another video out of Texas that recently gained viral infamy. Police say Martin posted the video to social media after leaving the store.
Cavalier says Martin produced a receipt showing he later purchased an identical package.
“Based on his receipt and the fact that the container was no longer there, we believe that he did buy it and posted it on Facebook as a way of gaining notoriety,” said Cavalier.
Martin has been arrested for the unlawful posting of criminal activity for notoriety. But Cavalier says his legal issues do not end there.
“Also, a charge of criminal mischief for tampering with the ice cream because at the time that he tampered with it, he was obviously not the owner of it,” said Cavalier.
Martin was booked into the parish prison on Saturday and will remain there until a bond is set.
