A Port Barre, Louisiana police officer is charged with rape after a Chalmette woman accuses the officer of having sex with her, allegedly in exchange for dismissing a speeding ticket, he wrote her following a traffic stop.
Port Barre Police officer Darwin Fontenot admits to having sex with the woman but says it was an off-duty consensual-sex encounter.
The woman claims Fontenot requested sex in exchange for a lighter punishment.
Fontenot was placed on administrative leave and charged with malfeasance and third-degree rape.
“The public holds law enforcement to a high standard and so do I,” Port Barre Police Chief, Deon Boudreax said in a statement. “Whether the sexual interaction was consensual or not doesn’t justify it. I will not tolerate such unprofessional behavior from our police officers.”
