Important news for the state’s unemployed came during Governor John Bel Edwards’ press conference, heard live on WWL, earlier this afternoon.
Recipients of unemployment payout will get the supplemental $300-a-week enhancement.
Paperwork to obtain the enhancement has been sent to the U.S. Department of Labor to provide the extra $300.
Currently this will mean a boost to those eligible for unemployment with the maximum payout tabbed at $547 a week, state and federal amounts combined.
Though the governor did not say when the new enhanced payments would begin, he did say the payments will be retroactive to August 1st.
