LSU missed out on recruiting a 6’11” center for the coming season, but they were rewarded when Bryan Penn-Johnson, a 7-foot, 245-pound player announced he was transferring from Washington to the Tigers.
Johnson tweeted “I would like to thank all of the coaching staffs that have reached out and recruited me during this difficult process. After discussing with my family and loved ones, I have decided that I will be transferring to LSU. #GeauxTigers.”
Penn-Johnson will file a waiver to play immediately for the Tigers.
Johnson wore number-23, also worn by Piston Pete Maravich, while at Washington. He’ll pick up a new number when he joins the squad.
A recruit from the Wasatch Academy of Mt. Pleasant, Utah, he helped the team to a 24-2 record as a senior in 2017-18.
Tiger Rag says he’s grown six inches since he was a freshman and has a span of 7’7”.
