Lucy’s Retired Surfer’s Bar on Tchoupitoulas Street in the Warehouse District is closed.
The establishment hastily closed after one of its employees tested positive for coronavirus.
"We wanted to be prepared and had to assume it was an inevitability," Caroline Kirkendoll, marketing director for the bar’s parent company told the Times-Picayune/New Orleans Advocate. "There’s not a lot of guidance out there from the city or state on what a business should do in this situation, but we decided that closing for now and letting people know is the responsible thing to do.”
The employee was feeling sick and sought getting tested.
Afterward, the employee did not go into work.
As restaurants and clubs closed down in March, Lucy’s soldiered on selling take-out.
Finally, it shut down in April and remained closed until April 28th when it re-opened for serving take-out. On May 16, the restaurant re-opened for business with only 25% capacity.
Lucy’s could reopen as soon as next week if employees COVID-19 tests come back clear.
“Our goal is to reopen with a completely healthy staff,” Kirkendoll told the paper.
