New Orleans Police say a man was shot in the French Quarter early this morning, but report it was not intentional.
NOPD Pubic Information released the following initially:
"The NOPD is investigating a shooting in the 1000 block of Royal Street. Initial information shows a male victim transported via EMS to a local hospital."
A short time late an email from police said the incident's classification was changed.
"Upon further investigation, this incident was reclassified to a negligent injuring."
Under Louisiana law negligent injuring is defined as, "The inflicting of any injury upon the person of another by criminal negligence."
NOPD did not initially explain what happened, but negligent injuring is a minor offense punishable by up to a $500 fine, six months in jail or both.
