A new pet parade comes to Mandeville. The Krewe du Pooch will make its debut in Mandeville on Saturday, February 29 at about 2 p.m. with a pet costume contest at noon before the parade. The pet-parade will walk down Lakeshore Drive starting at Foy Street and ending at Cartoll Street.

According to a press release from Krewe du Pooch, the inaugural theme will be “Dressed to the #9s,” in honor of #9 Drew Brees and Joe Burrow. Participants are encouraged to dress up their pooches and floats in a Football theme. The parade is expected to be a major touchstone for the local rescue community and raise awareness for the plight of rescue animals. The day will begin with a costume contest, followed by a charity walk that leads into an afternoon of fun celebrating pets. Dozens of animal rescues, non-profits, and vendors are expected to exhibit during the lakefront event.

Krewe du Pooch replaces a previous Northshore pet-parade, Mardi Paws, which moved to its new route in downtown Covington. Mardi Paws will roll Sunday, March 1st at 2 p.m.

"Proving that you can indeed teach an old dog new tricks, the Krewe of Mardi Paws is pleased to announce that after 25 years of celebrating Mardi Gras in the town of Mandeville, Louisiana, in 2020 this famed Super Krewe for K9's will move about 10 miles north, to the neighboring town of Covington," Mardi Paws organizers said in a news release. "Please join us as we take a giant leap for Dog-kind and move to a new town for our 26th year!"

The pet-parade, Mystic krewe of Barkus will also march in the French Quarter on Sunday, February 16 at 2 p.m. and the Krewe de Paws of Olde Towne marches in Slidell, Saturday February 15.
