Mayor LaToya Cantrell extends the State of Emergency declared because of the partial collapse  Hard Rock Hotel.

Mayor Cantrell originally declared a State of Emergency on Oct. 17, because of the ongoing aftermath of the collapse. In a press release, she cited several reasons for the extension, saying "the remaining threats to the health, safety, welfare, and property of the residents of the City of New Orleans are still in existence due to the partial demolition of the construction cranes, which have collapsed onto the remaining structure."

She also says, engineer inspections reveal the structure to be unsafe, as well as "a clear threat to human life and public safety, and must be demolished in full." An investigation into what caused the collapse is still ongoing. The city council will meet today to discuss the possibility of their own investigation into what happened. The partially collapsed building is set for demolition in March.
