The Balcony Ballroom, a venue for weddings and other large events in Metairie, has been hosting large parties despite orders limiting indoor gatherings to 50 people, The Times-Picayune | New Orleans Advocate reports.

The establishment is owned by the family of Jefferson Parish Councilwoman Jennifer Van Vrancken. Van Vrancken herself is an employee and paid consultant for the ballroom.

According to the Advocate, Van Vrancken has used her government email account to send several messages to the Louisiana Fire Marshal's Office asking that The Balcony be allowed to continue operating, despite several complaints being lodged against it. The complaints date back to May, when the state was in phase one of easing back the stay-at-home order.

More than 200 guests were reportedly at an event at the venue last month.
