Nick DeLisi, Entomologist for the St. Tammany Mosquito Abatement, is trying to look at the positive side.
"Remember, they're a nuisance and as annoying as they might be, unlike a mosquito, they are not biting on us. They're not spreading any diseases,'' Delisi said.
The mosquito look-alikes, sometimes called "blind mosquitoes," are still covering vehicles, and although experts aren't really sure about the cause, the opening of the Bonnet Carre Spillway could be a factor.
As for the bad smell associated with the bugs, "whatever it is that they are eating, they're probably are smelling a lot like that," said Delisi. "So I imagine they are smelling a little like the lakefront maybe not to pleasant all the time."
He hopes they will be gone soon, but new batches keep turning up.
