There are plenty of activities and events this weekend for mom and the whole family to enjoy.
It wouldn't be Mother's Day without Irma Thomas at the zoo, of course. And, it wouldn't be a weekend in New Orleans without a little craziness. Like the annual Pink Bra Run in Gretna.
"It's our 4th year. We run it on the levee. And its gimmick is that everybody has to wear a pink bra," says Ed Moise, with the Krewe de Pink.
However, he concedes "Well, you don't really have to, but that's what we like to publicize." Still, even canine entrants are likely to don the lingerie. The "Best Decorated Bra" contest has been expanded to the top three male and top three female contestants.
Things move at a much slower pace in the French Quarter Saturday.
"It's the Krewe of Turtles," says Brennan's General Manager, Christian Pendleton. "We're presenting the slowest second line on earth in our fifth annual Turtle Parade."
"We parade through the French Quarter. Then we welcome everyone into the courtyard at Brennan's, where the turtles are blessed." There's also a judge present who exonerates the turtles of any misdeeds and save them from the soup pot.
Some critters are not so lucky.
Saturday's Crawfish Mambo on Lakeshore Drive at UNO bills itself as NOLA'S Largest Crawfish Festival. And, there's also the annual Old Metairie Crawfish Festival and Cookoff at St. Catherine of Siena Church on Bonnabel.
