The man convicted in the ambush murders of two St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Deputies will pay for his crimes with his life.
The death penalty, the first handed down in nearly a 20-years has been sentenced upon Kyle Joekel.
Joekel will become the 69th person on Louisiana's death row.
The declaration of death is the exclamation point ending to a nine day trial in which his crime was detailed for a jury from Rapides Parish, selected because of the notoriety in St. John the Baptist Parish.
Joekel was convicted on Friday and Sunday handed the death penalty.
This brings to an end a case that began in August 2012 when Joekel reportedly took up an automatic rifle and ambushed Deputies Brandon Nielsen and Jeremy Triche at the Riverview Trailer Park in LaPlace.
