New Orleans City Council brings New Year's to the neighborhood

You don't have to wait until midnight for New Year's Eve fireworks.

The city is bringing New Year's to the neighborhood, with a party starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Daughters of Charity Clinic at 5630 Read Blvd. and culminating in a 9 pm fireworks display

"Bring your picnic lunches or your baskets or your bag chairs and just come on out there and enjoy the show," said New Orleans city Councilman Jay Banks.

Banks said it's a continuation of a tradition that began last year, when they did four neighborhood New Year's Celebrations. Unfortunately, Banks said this year, they didn't have the funding to do them all.

"Hopefully next year, we'll be successful in raising some additional funds to put it back in City Park and to put one Uptown.
