Due to the expected heavy rain Sunday evening into Monday, parking restrictions on neutral grounds and sidewalks in the city will be suspended beginning at noon 12:00 p.m. Sunday and will remain suspended through 6:00 p.m. Monday. Residents are reminded not to block intersections or streetcar tracks.

Also, during heavy rain, motorists are urged to use caution around areas prone to significant street flooding, like streets under bridges and overpasses. The New Orleans Police Department will ticket motorists who drive faster than 5 mph on streets with standing water.

Due to the potentially severe danger that could result from high water, residents should call 9-1-1 to report street flooding and life-threatening emergencies. Reports of street flooding are shown in real time at streetwise.nola.gov.

Heavy rain and storms, some which may be severe, are forecast to move through the New Orleans area beginning in the evening Sunday, through Monday, April 8. The City of New Orleans urges residents to prepare for inclement weather and stay alert to weather conditions.

The metro area is under a slight risk of severe weather and heavy rainfall beginning late Sunday afternoon, with the highest risk in the overnight hours, according to the National Weather Service. The main threats associated with severe storms will be high winds, hail, and possible tornadoes.

Rainfall of two to four inches, with the potential for locally higher amounts, is possible Sunday through Monday afternoon. The heaviest rain is currently expected overnight Sunday. Locally heavy rainfall could lead to ponding of water in low lying areas and areas of poor drainage, as well as isolated flash flooding.

The Sewerage and Water Board and the Department of Public Works are making rain preparations, and vacuum trucks and crews are clearing catch basins. Residents are encouraged to call 3-1-1 to report clogged drains.
