The New Orleans Police Department is investigating a killing in Gentilly.
"The NOPD is investigating a homicide in the 4800 block of Prentiss Avenue, in the Third District," the department said in an email to news outlets around 8:15 a.m. "Initial reports show two victims."
The Times-Picayune | New Orleans Advocate reports police were focusing their attention on an SUV crashed near Pontchartrain Park.
"At about 7:30 a.m., NOPD Third District officers responded to a call of a vehicle crash with injury at the location," according to the NOPD. "Upon arrival, officers discovered a crashed maroon SUV with two unresponsive male victims inside. The victims were declared dead at the scene."
Police said detectives learned that a neighbor reportedly heard the sounds of a car crash around 12:30 a.m., but no report was made to NOPD.
"Based on evidence discovered at the scene, the signal for the incident was changed to a homicide," police said.
