New Orleans today began phase two of easing coronavirus restrictions. It brings some more businesses back into operation but also poses new challenges.
Mark Romig of New Orleans and Company said the easing of regulations will see restaurants and attractions expand from 25 perrcent of their maximum occupancy to 50 percent.
“Every little bit is going to help in trying to revive the economy. Attractions, again, at 50 percent capacity. The National World War II Museum has returned. The Audobon Zoo is open,” said Romig.
Romig said Bourbon Street will see a bit more life as additional bars will be allowed to reopen.
“Bars without food will be permitted to have 25 percent capacity. That’s a change and that will be very helpful to our bar industry here in the city,” said Romig.
One New Orleans staple will be missing in the second phase, but Romig believes as more progression moves forward, we’ll eventually see it: live music again in the city.
“Indoor live entertainment is not possible as well as festivals and fairs, music and concert halls,” said Romig.
Harrah’s Casino will also reopen at 25 percent capacity.
