The New Orleans Police Department says it has arrested a juvenile suspect in the armed carjacking of New Orleans City Councilmember Cyndi Nguyen's father. It happened Sunday afternoon in New Orleans East.

"At about 2:03 p.m., as the victim was seated in the driver’s seat of his parked vehicle in the 13900 block of Dwyer Road, the arrested juvenile suspect along with a second unknown black male subject approached the driver’s door of the victim’s vehicle," police said in a news release. "The subjects opened the driver’s door of the victim’s vehicle while armed with a firearm and proceeded to force the victim out the vehicle, causing the victim to fall from the vehicle onto the ground."

Police said after they forced the driver from the car, they jumped in and drove off, and later met with three others and all five fled the scene in a different vehicle.

"The juvenile male was later identified as one of the perpetrators and subsequently arrested," police said. "He was booked into the Juvenile Justice Center for armed carjacking, armed robbery with a firearm and possession of stolen property."
