A 26-year-old man faces a second degree murder charge for a homicide in Algiers this weekend, New Orleans Police said today.
Michael Roberts is suspected of shooting Lawrence Varnado to death at the intersection of Diana and Verret streets Sunday.
"At around 12:48 p.m., NOPD Fourth District officers responded to a call of an aggravated battery by shooting near the intersection of Diana and Verret streets," police said. "Upon arrival, officers discovered a 29-year-old male – later identified by the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office as Varnado – suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Varnado was pronounced dead at the scene."
Police say their investigation led them to Roberts, who was arrested Monday.
Police ask anyone with more information about the crime to call NOPD homicide detective Rayell Johnson at (504) 658-5300.
