NOPD

A New Orleans Police officer is dragged by a suspected carjacker.

According to NOPD, this happened at about 1:37 a.m. this morning at a gas station in the 4500 block of Chef Menteur Highway.

The report says officers spotted the vehicle believed to be stolen in a recent carjacking. When they approached the driver, the subject entered the car and began to reverse out of the parking lot while the officers pursued on foot.

Police say the subject then abandoned the reversing vehicle to start running away on foot, however, he left the car in reverse causing the driver attempting to stop the vehicle, to be dragged across the parking lot.

The officer suffered minor injuries to his arm and leg, however, both officers continued to pursue the subject on foot and apprehended him.

The officer’s injuries were not life-threatening. He was treated and later released from the hospital.
